What this tool does

The Seasonal Climate Analysis tool compares rainfall, day degrees, cold days and hot days with long-term averages for the region and season to analyse influences on cotton growth.

Outputs

The tool gives you the following Excel reports:

Seasonal and monthly summary reports


These reports present the accumulated rainfall and day degrees for each season or month within the defined date range. They also sum the number of ‘hot’ days, ‘cold’ days or frosts. These reports also generate a long-term average figure for rainfall, day degrees, hot days, cold days and frosts, based on available data since 1957.

Weekly summary report


This report presents the accumulated day degrees for each week within the defined date range. It also sums the number of ‘hot’, ‘cold’ or frost days and generates a long-term average figure for day degrees, hot days, cold days and frosts.

Daily details report


This report presents the day-degree figure for each day within the defined date range. It also indicates whether the day was a ‘hot’ day, a ‘cold’ day or a frost.

The following long-term reports automatically retrieve all climate data that is available for the selected weather station from 1957 onwards.

  • Long-term summary reports (Seasonal and Monthly): Presents the accumulated rainfall and day degrees for all seasons or months that can be retrieved by the weather station. It also sums the number of ‘hot’ days, ‘cold’ days or frosts.
  • Long-term weekly summary report: Presents the accumulated day degrees for each week that can be retrieved by the weather station. It also sums the number of ‘hot’, ‘cold’ or frost days.

History

The Seasonal Climate Analysis tool was developed and is maintained by CSIRO. It is a part of a group of CSIRO web tools, designed for Australian cotton growers and consultants, called CottASSIST.

CottASSIST aims to deliver the latest cotton research and integrate up-to-date information and assist with cotton management decisions. Developed by CSIRO, it is supported by the Cotton Research and Development Corporation and the former Cotton Catchment Communities CRC.
